We absolutely loved everything about this place. The breakfasts and the food were fantastic, we ate breakfast here every day for 5 Cuc each. We had lobster for dinner one night. Alfredo is a wonderful cook. The pina colada was creamy with little bits of coconut, sooo fricken good. The rooftop terrace was too hot for us during the day as we are fair haired people and burn easy. But in the evening it was perfect to watch the ocean and the sun go down while enjoying a bottle of wine. A few days in the afternoon we spent time in the loungers on the ground level drinking beer in the shade. The location was perfect, steps away from the ocean. Alfredo, Bertha and their daughter Laurent are perfect hosts. We had a fridge in our room stocked with cans of cold Crystal beer and bottles of water for a fee. Originally we tried to book this place for two weeks, but we were only able to book for five nights as that was all they had available for us. Were were really looking forward to spending time here as we knew it would be perfect and it did not disappoint. We are hoping that our schedules will work for the next time we come to Varadero, so that we are able to stay the whole time.

We spent 4 days in Varadero staying with Berta y Alfredo which were just great hosts!!!! The casa has the best location ever - almost on the beach and very close to 2 mercados and few restaurants and cafeterias. It has a rooftop terrace from which you can see the beach. The view is just amazing, especially at the sunset when you can sit there, watch the waves and sip you rum. You can get to the beach within a minute which is less the most of the resorts can offer you, and believe me - the beach near Berta y Alfredos's casa is waaaaay better than the beaches at the resorts! We went to the resorts zone to compare and the beach over there was crowdy with a lot of seaweed and the water is not so cristal clear, while "our" beach was almost empty, clean and the water was just amazing! A huge plus for the shower outside - it prevents form any sand in your bed :) The owners are also very helpfull and very nice. They also speak english so don't worry if you cannot speak spanish. So if you go to Varadero and still can't decide whether book a hotel or casa I highly recommend this casa, especially if you rather look for peacefull place to relax. You can see how the real Cuba looks like, , you can really feel the hospitality& friendliness of the owners (which in hotel won't happen I guess....), you can have the beach just for yourself and I believe the room itself is as clean & comfortable as in most of he hotels!
How was your room?: The room is spacious enough, bed is very comfortable. Everything is clean. Has both aircon and a fan. It has a private bathroom. Nice area outside where you can si at the table under the umbrella when you have enough of sun:)
How was the food they offer?: Alfredo is a great cook and we had some of the best meals in Cuba at the casa!

Casa Bertha y Alfredo
My review: Great place, the room is just some meters of amazing Varadero beach. The food was great and Alfredo and Bertha are very charming, hospitable and helpful. Even if my Spanish was not that well, we got to communicate very easily. Also Bertha called other Casas for me where I could stay the further days. I was even invited to a family dinner and birthday party, this was great.
How was your room?: Room with own bathroom. Clean, air condition and a fan. The room was about 20m of amazing Varadero beach. You can just leave all your stuff in the room and walk with your towel down to the beach.
How was the food they offer?: The food was great. I has two breakfasts and one dinner and Alfredo really is a great cook.
Other services they offer: They offered me to fetch my from the airport. It was very good, the taxi driver is Bertha`s nephew and also very nice. I could pay the day after when I had the time to change some money.
Other comments: Really nice and charming family who was very helpful and hospitable. I was even spontaneous invited to a big family dinner and party in the evening. It was great.

Bertha y Alfredo
My review: EXCELLENT. We loved staying with Bertha and Alfredo. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Air conditioning is available which is needed on those hot cuban days. the two highlights of our stay is of course the location of the case: open the garden door and you step into the beach. The beach behind the casa is excellent. The second highlight are the generous and delicious meals at offer in the house. we have had the best cuban food of our 3-week trip around cuba here. the hosts are very warm and make you feel at ease. We would very highly recommend it.

Casa Bertha y Alfredo
My review: Great location. 20m from the beach and it is yours!
Bertha and Alfredo are extremely kind people. They were very welcoming. The food was excellent (we had breakfast and diner at the casa every day)
We stayed 4 nights. 2 nights in a big bedroom with no view and 2 nights in the smaller room with the sea view (the best).
I highly recommend this casa.

Casa Bertha y Alfredo (Vista al Mar)
My review: We had a great stay with Bertha and Alfredo. A nice clean apartment right on the beach! It's also near the tourist area with lots of little markets. Our nicest casa in Cuba was Bertha's and Alfredo's. They go out of their way to help you have a great stay in their home but also in Cuba. If you need it, they can give you tips and advice what to do or where to stay. We also enjoyed a great breakfast and dinner.
To make a long story short a great place to stay!!

Casa Berta & Alfredo
My review: This was a great casa in a great location, the hosts were lovely people and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were lovely and dinner also beautifully cooked. room was nice clean and with fridge stocked and shower ensuite. Outside sitting area with sunbeds and rockers, the location makes it a winner 100m to the fabulous beach.

My review: Bertha and Alfredo made our holiday in Cuba, we're so thankful. This friendly family took care of us, made us incredible dinners and breakfasts, made us feel comfortable and cosy in their house. Bertha helped us with accomodations around the country.

Casa Bertha y Alfredo
My review: Bertha and Alfredo's casa is honestly one of my favourites in Cuba, and I've traveled from end to end of the island over numerous trips in the past ten years. They are some of the most welcoming, honest, and wonderful people you could ever have the pleasure to meet.
This trip was the first overseas trip for my partner, and when I told Bertha and Alfredo this, they went out of their way to ensure that his first travel experience would be amazing.
We celebrated a late Christmas with the family (we took a side trip to Trinidad, Cienfuegos, and Havana over Christmas) and they gave us a beautiful present, plus, they refused to let us pay for our meal that night. Needless to say, my partner, who is terrified of flying, is already planning our next trip to see Bertha and Alfredo!

How was your room?: We stayed in the larger room/suite for 5 nights when we first arrived. It has one double/queen bed plus a single bed in the bedroom, a private bathroom with shower, and a sitting area/dining room (with fridge). The bed was a bit firmer than I prefer, but perfect for my partner.
On our return, we stayed in the smaller room with two twin beds, a small private bathroom, and a fridge. The beds were comfortable, again, firmer than I prefer, but I like a very soft bed so I don't encounter too many that are soft enough for me in my travels.
Both rooms are absolutely spotless.
How was the food they offer?: Wow. I first visited Cuba in the early 2000s, so I was used to packing food with me because so many things were difficult to find. Things have changed, and Bertha and Alfredo make some amazing food. The food they serve is not only reasonably priced but absolutely delicious. The potatoes are divine, and the lobster/chicken/fish/etc are perfectly seasoned and cooked. My favourite, though, is the rice and beans. Breakfast is wonderful too, with fresh seasonal fruits, eggs, cheese, breads, and delicious juices and coffee.
Other services they offer: Laundry, groceries, mid-afternoon tea, reservations in other cities, or late night dominoes and rum - all you need to do is ask! Be warned though, Alfredo is the domino champion of Cuba, and he's declared my partner the champion of Canada :)
Other comments: The location is spectacular, just a few steps to a quiet portion of the public beach - far away from the resorts, which is just what we wanted.

Casa Berta y Alfredo
My review: We stayed at this casa over Christmas. We were all welcomed like part of the family...kisses all around. We were able to have dinner the night we arrived. Alfredo is a great cook. He swears he never tastes the food just smells it as it is cooking! The rooms were comfortable and clean. We ate breakfast and all our dinners here and the price was very reasonable. The standard 4 for breakfast and between 6-8 for dinner depending on what you order. When we paid our bill at the end they did not charge us for the dinner on Christmas Day. A very kind and thoughtful gesture on their part. The beach is right there...ten steps outside your room. We were travelling with our two children and they were never lacking for someone to play dominos with. Amy, a niece of Berta, is there alot! helping out and she will often do your nails which is a nice to have done on a leisurly afternoon.
We spent a couple more days in Varadero at the end of our visit but were unable to stay here but Berta and Alfredo offered us the use of the shower and bathroom while at the beach. We also ate dinner there with the family on our last night.
We will definatly return and recommend this casa to others. I just hope it won't be full.

My review: The casa is located directly beside the beach. You walk a few betters and find yourself looking a the beautiful turquoise blue ocean. The house offers a lot of comfort. Berta, Alfredo and their daughter Laure are a great family and leave in the house attached to the apparment. Their property is surrounded by a fence, which they lock at night. I cannot think of a better way to be staying in Varadero and highly recommend their home.

How was your room?: The first night we (3 girls) stayed in the smaller room and the 2 other nights in the bigger room. The first night we used the familys bathroom coz there was an other couple in the appartment using the private bathroom. After that we were alone in the appartment and enjoyed it for ourselves. All the rooms have air conditioning.
How was the food they offer?: Alfredo is an excellent chef and Berty prepares really good potatoes :) (her specialty.) Alfredo can prepare anything your heart desires and believe me, you will get enought food :)
Other services they offer: You can get your laundry washed, park your car inside their property. They look the fence at night, so you don't have to worry about your safety. Feel free to ask them about anything you need to know about Varadero or if you need recommendation about further accomadation. They'll help you book a place.
Other comments: Berta, Alfredo and their daughter Laure are a wonderful family and we enjoyed a few fantastic days in Varadero. We shared lots of laughs with them and are grateful for their help and hospitality.

My review: If you really want to have beach near you, this is the place. This casa is only couple of footsteps away from the beach, and this is one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. Long, clean water, almous white sand. As we were there in mid June, it was almoust empty....
The casa is very nice, with own entrance, nice extra is an outdoor shower. The casa has 3 bedrooms, one big bathroom and big kitchen. We were lucky and the other bedrooms was vacant so we had all the apartment for ourselves.
Everything was very clean and what was also really nice, that the shower was good with lot of hot water :)

This is THE place to be in Varadero. Only a few steps from the beach. Closer than ANY hotel in town!!! Within seconds I was on the beach where I could walk for hours (6:45 to 9:45 every morning). Berta y Alfredo were patient and always ready to serve me breakfast whenever I came back from my daily morning promenade.
This was the very first and the very last casa particular where I stayed in Cuba during my 3 week stay in March-April 2011. Berta y Alfredo where also the very first Cubans I met on my very first trip to the Isla Bonita. They made me feel right at home and I wanted to stay in Cuba forever!!! And they were the very last Cubans whose life I shared before flying back to Canada.
Berta y Alfredo are not only great hosts, they became my friends treating me like a family member. We played dominoes in the afternoon. We had Manacas together. They offered me ''on the house'' (free of charge) a fabulous farewell dinner: comida criolla (congris, pollo a la Alfredo, etc). Of course, since I speak fluent Spanish, communication was very easy. But even beyond that, Berta y Alfredo are great human beings well worth knowing.
Before flying to Cuba for the very first time, I did not know what to expect. Berta y Alfredo made any doubt I had vanish the minute I met them. I recommand this place without any hesitation.
