Villa Tito y Yanet

My review: When we arrived in Vinales we checked in Hotel La Ermita, but after deciding to extend our stay for a couple of days, we decided to ask a new friend we met at Vinales whether he can recommend a Casa. Thanks to him, we enjoyed 2 lovely days at Casa Tito y Yanet.

The Casa offers great space for its guests, we had a room with 2 big beds, a big private area more than enough for our luggage, and our own private bathroom. It was clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable. It location is great, just 5 minutes walk from the main street of the village.

The best experience was meeting the family of Tito and Yanet, and enjoying the great local cuisine offered by the hostess Juana. The family not only offered us great hospitality, but also warm friendship, plus very in-depth tips on understanding Vinales better. With their guidance, we explored wonderful caves, made friends with experienced tobacco farmers, and enjoyed a 5 hour horse-back ride. It was also very enjoyable sitting at the porch in front of the casa, and feel the Vinales life.

I missed Vinales the moment we said goodbye.

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Roomy, Charming, No frills, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Clean, spacious, air-conditioned, roosters crow in the early morning but adds to the experience.
How was the food they offer?: Delicious local cuisine, the hostess is a wonderful cook, she is attentive to guest's needs, great chicken and vegetable soup, all the food was of high quality and generous portions!
Other services they offer: The family can refer good horseback riding services and tobacco farm visits, as well as customized tours in Vinales, all very memorable experiences!

My review: This was the nicest casa we stayed in whilst travelling in Cuba for 2 weeks. The owners were really friendly and more than happy to give us advice on where to visit in Vinales, they even arranged for us to go horse-riding in the mountains. We were welcomed with mojitos on the balcony which was the perfect place to relax after a day of travelling. The food was also great. We would return without question! Not to miss!

Casa Fernandez
Calle Rafael Trejo - 15B, Vinales, Cuba
Tel: +53 48793252

Review

Amazing food! Warm and generous hospitality. Comfortable private rooms in a courtyard in the rear of the house with no noise from the vehicles on the Calle.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Patio
Amenities: Private bathroom, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Very comfortable. The only noise comes from the chickens in the surrounding gardens and country side. Each house neighbour must have at least one cockeral.
How was the food they offer?: Very generous servings for breakfast and dinner is an option. Each evening there was a choice and the hosts only request is that they know the selection before leaving for the day.
Other comments: The casa is only 1000 yards from the center of the town.

Villa Marbely y Rauniel
Address: Calle Joaquin Perez #3, Vinales - Pinar del Rio, Cuba
Tel: +53 48 696696

A friend from Trinidad advised me to stay in Vinales at Marbely and Rauniel's house and no advice was better for me ... A great friendship has born: we are still in contact and I already returned once to Cuba to see "my Cuban family". Really, if you are going to Cuba go to Vinales, and once in Vinales stay at Marbely and Rauniel's house. The house is cute and friendly, the food is abundant and rich and they are so special.
They can also arrange horseback rides and bring you to a tobacco farm.
You will have great time there!!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Comfortable, Cozy, Children in the house, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: The room is clean, big enough and cool.
How was the food they offer?: Great. Ask for fish but everything will be tasty and rich
Other services they offer: horseback rides

Casa Margarita
Address: km 25 Carretera a Pinar del Rio #14, Vinales
Tel: +53 48 796042 / +53 5 3373994

We fell in love with the cute independant apartment but evenmore with our hosts Yuliet and her mom Murya who live in the adjoining house. Their friendship, their dedication joined with their discretion, the super tasty breakfasts and suppers, and the good suggestions to discover and enjoy the so lovely area made our 3 nights stay a very memorable part of our 11 days in Cuba.

Sitting on the front porch, seeing the locals go by, made us feel part of the community.

Murya is an artist in cooking but Yuliet is a visual artist(ask to see her prints) who speaks english very well.

enjoy your stay at casa margarita (named for the grandmother)and say allo from Andree & Richard in Canda

Casa de Jesus y Tomasa
Address: Adela Azcuy No 6, Norte (near baseball stadium), Viñales, Pinar del Rio, Cuba
Tel: +53 5 2238857

We didnt actually stay at this casa, but we spent considerable time with Jesus and Tomasa in their scrupulously maintained home. Sometime in 2011, they will complete construction of a self-contained room with private entrance, located behind the main house. The new rental space will feature access to a rooftop deck with a commanding view of the surrounding valley and distant mountains.

Jesus, who was born on Christmas Day, is a gentleman in his seventies with eccentric passions and prodigious energy to pursue them. He designed the national reference prehistoric parkthe garden adjacent to the casa, where we first met him. He delights in conducting tours of the garden and explaining all of the plants, rocks and fossils. We engaged Jesus for a whole afternoon to guide us on a hike to a cave. By flashlight, we walked several minutes until we reached a body of water where some hikers take a refreshing dip. Thats where Jess regaled us with two a capella songs that we recorded on video. The fee was whatever we decided we wanted to pay him, which ended up being 20 CUCs.

Advised that his wife Tomasa is a spectacular cook, we reserved a date for dinner, which we enjoyed with the couple, their daughter and son. It was a lively event including more singing from Jesus and his grown children. Tomasas baked chicken was divine, and the accompanying comida criolla was delicious: black beans and rice, rice, plantain chips, and salad.

Proprietors: Jesus Arencibia Coro, wife Tomasa, daughter Luisa
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Charming, Garden, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower

Villa Tery
Address: Calle Joaquin Perez Interior #31, Viñales, Pinar del Rio, Cuba
Tel: +53 48 696662

Villa Tery offers a friendly family environment in a rustic setting a few blocks away from the main square of town. Sitting in one of the two rockers on the front porch, its delightful to behold the passing parade of visiting neighbours, campesinos on horses, farmers with ox-drawn carts, pigs, roosters, dogs, and even the resident frog (rana) popping up each night out of its drain pipe. The chorus of animal voices gives a whole new meaning to country music, which in late evenings gets mixed with salsa music from the downtown core.

After a week of excursions and hanging out at Villa Tery, my husband reluctantly returned to Havana. He missed his newly adopted Cuban family so much, he returned for a second week. It turned out to be even more wonderful than the first!

Guillermo and family make it easy to stay and hard to leave. Invited to visit Terys parents (and 98-year-old grandmother) on their nearby farm, we learned about the process of making Cuban cigars from her father, Rene. Daughter Yoly, who speaks English, oriented us to the excursion options, and personally guided us on a hike to Los Aquaticos, an abandoned retreat located high in the mountains. Yoly and Tery are skilfully in charge of the casas cuisine which is flavourful and fresh, with many vegetables picked the same day they are consumed. We liked the first dinner (comida criolla) so well, we asked for the same thing every night.

We also asked if we could eat one night with the family. As a special dessert to celebrate the occasion, the family splurged on a cake covered in pink frosting. Guillermo, our relaxed and affable host, frequently checked in about whether everything was OK (todo bien?) and it always was. At Villa Tery, we felt at home and among friends. We recommended it to someone we met in Baracoa who summed up her stay in a wordbrilliant.

Proprietors: Guillermo Crespo SuᲥz, wife Tery, (adult) daughter Yoly, (adult) son Yorandy, (11-year-old) daughter Yaime, and Che the dog

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Charming, Safe, Garden, Children in the house, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower

Casa Margarita
Address: km.25 Carretera a Pinar del Rio No.14, Vinales, Cuba
Tel: +53 48 796042

We were brought to this place by our taxi driver and not knowing what to expect we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a clean lovely little apartment to ourselves with living space a small kitchen bedroom (with two beds, one double one single) and bathroom and a lovely porch out front. Mother and daughter team Margarita and Yuliet were incredibly sweet and very knowledgeable the hooked us up with great things to do during the day i.e the San Tomas Cave, horsebackriding, hiking, tobacco plantation visit, cayo jutias. The food was to die for. Huge spreads of delicious home cooked Cuban food at breakfast and dinner. The day we left we were out of the house at 6am and Margarita woke up to see us off and unsolicited gave us a bag of fruits and snacks for breakfast on the bus. They real! ly go the extra mile at this place. We fellin love with them after just a few days. We highly, highly HIGHLY recommend this place!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Charming, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: The room had two beds one a single the other a double. An ensuite bathroom with hot shower and AC in the room.
How was the food they offer?: The food was home cooked, fresh and delicous! Probably the best meals we had in our two weeks of traveling around Cuba. What's more, it was always laid out and presented so beautifully. They really made it special.
Breakfast was Eggs, fresh bread, Fresh fruit, coffee and/or tea with hot milk, fresh squeezed fruit juice and sausage.
Dinner was a different kind of hearty soup each night with whatever entree you choose (chicken, porc, fish, lobster, shrimp) there was always rice, a huge fresh green salad, and some kind of root vegetable, yucca or boniato (like potato but a touch sweeter) pan fried or roasted and fresh fruit for desert. It was all very very good and we have fairly high standards when it comes to food.
Other services they offer: You name it! They are so helpful and willing, they will help you out with whatever you need, and if they can't they will find someone who can.
Other comments: Possibly the best part of our trip to Cuba!

I had booked the casa just next to her's, i.e. Villa Nilda but without saying anything, Nilda had overbooked her casa and we were moved to her Neighbor maria luisa.
