Casa Colonial 1830 (Yirina y Chichi) | Trinidad | Cuba

Casa Yirina y Chichi bedroom

Photo Gallery Casa Yirina y Chichi

Located in the historical centre of Trinidad, in front of the bus station, there is one of the most beautiful building of the town. Built at the end of XVIII century, presently it is owned by Torrado family. The building, awarded by UNECO, still preserves its original structure with paintings of the colonial era. The building consists of a huge dining room characterized by some colonial style columns, some bedrooms and a kitchen. A double room with private bathroom, air conditioning, cold and hot water is rented to tourists. Moreover it is possible to have breakfast and dinner, with fresh food and traditional Cuban plates, for very convenient prices. The guests of the house will have the opportunity to listen to Cuban music, dance salsa and, together with the family, spend unforgettable days in this town, which has kept itself unchanged for centuries.

Hostal Yirina y Chichi

My review: We spent 5 nights with Yirina and Chichi during our honeymoon in Cuba. We had a really pleasant stay in Casa Colonial 1830. The family were so warm & welcoming. Chichi would bend over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed and provided lots of advice on what to do in the area. Yirina is a wonderful cook. Both the breakfast & dinners were fantastic. Although they might be slightly more expensive than other casas the meals were worth it, & truth be told for a extra few cuc they were a safer bet than alot of other places in town. The house fish speciality is a must, YUMMY. On our last night they put on a romantic dinner for us for our honeymoon. The location is great, right next to the bus station but on a quiet street which is very central. The down side (& ! the reason we're not giving 5 stars) was our room didn't have a window & unlike other casas wasn't cleaned everyday, also there wasn't anywhere you could just hang your wet beach stuff without having to ask. Although they were more than happy to hang it out for us & our room was cleaned during our stay. All in all we'd gladly recommend this casa & hope one day to return

Yirina y Chichi

My review: Yirina and her son Chichi were excellent hosts. They live in a beautiful colonial house in the town centre (next Viazul station). The place is still very quiet and cozy. The breakfast and dinner was delicious, big portions. They have a nice patio where you can sit and have a coffee. Yirina was speaking to us very often and telling funny stories. My friend and I speak some Spanish, so it was easy to communicate with her. We liked the food very much. Fresh fruit in the morning and fresh vegetable in the evening and we also could choose between fish and meat. We stayed in their house for 5 nights. Taking the Viazul Bus from Havanna to Trinidad it takes 6 hours. The journey was quiet and comfortable. Just wear a shirt with long sleeves, jacket and jeans, because in the bus it is freezy. !

Trinidad is beautiful and well worth to visit. You feel like to live in the past. At night we went dancing Salsa at Casa de la Musica (outside). Nice atmosphere and great fun. You can also reach the beach by taxi (Playa Ancon) to have a rest.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Basic room, but comfortable with two beds, one of them bigger. Warm water all day and clean room.
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast were "Sunday breakfast". Fresh fruits and juice. Bread, butter, cheese and eggs if you wish. Breakfast is CUC 5.00, Dinner: CUC 10.00
Other services they offer: Dinner, they asked what we would like to eat. We ate all 5 days in their house.
Laundry and suggesting tours.
Other comments: We recommend this house. Yirina and Chichi are very nice, helpful and funny.

Casa Yirini y Chichi

What a lovely discovery, hidden behind a massive entrance door this beautiful old colonial style casa with grand columns and antiques was a haven away from the touts. we ate dinner and breakfast several days which was plentiful and much better than the state run restaurants, they even have a selection of wines. Great coffee too! Chichi is such a lovely bloke and he speaks English which was very helpful as he gave us advice on the local places to visit and can arrange trips in the old 50's American cars too.
Our room was comfortable with en-suite and seperate from the main house just off a small courtyard along with 2 other rooms. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Comfortable with an en-suite, air con and decorated with hand painted murals on the walls typical of the area.
How was the food they offer?: Lovely food cooked by Yirina, big portions. Lots of salad and fresh fruit, we even had lobster one nite. Very reasonable prices at CUC5 for breakfast and CUC10 for dinner.

Casa Yirina y Chichi

Yirina and her son Chichi seem to have a lot of experience in making guests feel at home in their house. Everything is taken care of and very well at that. The basics: air-conditioning, clean room, warm shower and a place to sit are all present. In addition, the breakfasts are huge and great, you can choose your eggs and when we mentioned we liked cheese, they provided cheese from then on!
Chichi speaks English very well and the rest of the family is very patient with stumbling Spanish speakers. They will help you practise if you wish. Coffee was made whenever we liked and dinners can be eaten there as well. If you want to eat Cuban food, definitely eat here, not out!
I had dropped my camera and Chichi lent us a digital camera and copied the pictures onto a CD for us! He also arranged several days out and can give you all the directions and advice you want on Trinidad and its surroundings. Going back to Havana, he arranged for a ride that was quicker than the bus and more interesting because of the local driver. Our room was cleaned whenever we liked (we stayed six nights) and Yirina even did our laundry for us!
Trinidad is beautiful and well worth a visit, and staying here will be the cherry on top!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Colonial, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: I believe they have two rooms available and we had the one at the end. It had a double bed, beautiful tiled floors, air conditioning/fan and warm water all day. It is very clean. I guess the room was not huge, but certainly not tiny: we had more than enough space for all of our stuff!
How was the food they offer?: Breakfasts were "Sunday breakfasts" each day. They ask you preferred eggs and make coffee (refills if you wish), fruitshakes and plates with fruit, bread, butter, cheese, dulce and more. As in all casas you pay extra fro breakfast, but (also as in all casas) that was so little it's almost unbelievable.
They also offer dinners. You can choose anything you like and they will make suggestions if you wish. We have had their pizza, the fish and the Cuban dish (I do not eat meat). Each dish was delicious and also not expensive.
We have never been ill: they either boil the water or use storebought water. Your tummy will be safe here!
Other services they offer: Cleaning, laundry, coffee or other beverages whenever you like, telephone, arranging tours or suggesting trips anything is possible! chichi will get you a safe taxi, a salsa lesson, check whether the steamtrain is running and phone ahead to the next casa.
Other comments: They have a very cute parrot "Coco" who likes attention and finds it exciting at the same time. He will not wake you up, ad loves being fed some pineapple :)
I have no pictures that match the ones already on facebook and their site. But believe this: the real thing is even better!
