My review: "The" place to stay in Santa Clara, no doubt. Very close to the center, wonderful cuban atmosphere, in other words so special and "particolare" (according to the meaning of the word in Italian). Don't miss the dinner in the patio!

My review: „Lovely colonial house in the heart of Santa Clara"
Carmen and Carlos rent three modern ensuite rooms around a beautiful patio right in the center of Santa Clara. Their home has been completely renovated and the rooms are clean and confortable. Breakfast and dinner are excelent value and served in the patio. Carlos kindly helped us find a taxi driver to take us to Cayo Santa María and back. Hostal Auténtica Pérgola is an excelent accomodation choice in Santa Clara.

Hostal Autentica Pergola / Santa Clara
My review: Very nice and comfortable casa, good meals and friendly hosts. The son of the hosts speaks rather good English, which was very helpful for us, because my Spanish is very bad and my girlfriend doesn't speak Spanish at all.
There is a courtyard with a beautiful garden inside the hostal and there is enough space to just sit outside of the room with view at the garden. (Usually we did have such an opportunity in other casas, at least none had such a nice garden)
We stayed there 2 days and had one day to visit Santa Clara, which is basically enough to see everything there.

My review: I stayed here for two nights during my trip around Cuba and this is one of the best casas I stayed at - Carmen and Obregon were very welcoming and accomodation was of a high standard.
Location is extremely close to the main square.

How was your room?: Lovely room with high vaulted ceilings; wardrobe, chest of drawers, night stands. Double and single bed. Bathroom with good-sized shower "cubical". Room opens directly onto garden area which is very peaceful.
How was the food they offer?: Here I had the best food - three course meals if required. Soup (great pumpkin soup!), meat/fish with salad and rice, ice cream for dessert.
Other comments: I didn't find Santa Clara to be as lively as the guide book suggested...one day was enough here for me!
Approx 2km to Che memorial (an easy walk), and Viazul station a similar distance; taxi was 4CUC.

My review: The BEST casa in Cuba for sure. It was beautiful, quiet and very relaxing sitting on the patio (gorgeous tiles) outside our clean and spacious room with the parrot and birds in the garden.
Carmen & Carlos were very accommodating in every way from organising taxis to the islands in the North to tips of what to do in Santa Clara. They both speak very good English. My husband had to go to hospital due to being very ill on holiday - Carmen came with us and assisted me in the translations from Spanish to English (&visa versa)with all the hospital staff as well as waiting the ~8hrs that we had to stay there (while my husband had intravenous drips) and popping out to buy us drinks as well as arranging the taxi to and from the hospital. I could not have done it without her. After this, we arrived back at the casa after 11pm where she prepared a dinner for me. She was an angel.
Carmen & Carlos are building a balcony at the top of their house so once this is finished you will be able to relax on the roof and get great sites of the city!
If you want a great stay in this beautiful city - STAY HERE (if you can get a vacancy)!

How was your room?: The room was very spacious and clean with an awesome bed. For those of you who have travelled around Cuba - some of the beds are atrocious but not here - nice and firm.
Bathroom was clean with hot water all the time and decent shower.
How was the food they offer?: Food was excellent and the service during breakfast and dinner was great. Not sure why someone in another review was complaining about the portion sizes and price. Portions were good (at times too much for either myself or my husband to finish) and prices are the same as everywhere else we stayed in Cuba.

My review: We stayed ate the casa on our honeymoon. We went there as we had been told that it was the best casa in Santa Clara. Without a doubt, it is true. The people are awesome, it is a very comfortable casa and at a good price. An incredible experience to be there sharing with them the table. Very recommendable.

My review: Ok the good part is that the casa is clean, showers work fine, and the food is better than average such shrimps in tomato sauce and grilled fish fillet. Also it is very close the city center. I would have given this casa a 5 star but when I got the cheque I was not happy. I got billed $12 for shrimps and fish fillets EACH which came to $24!!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason is because the portions were small. I asked the guy why is it so expensive as I have been to 6 cities in Cuba and the MAX one should pay is $8 for a plate. His response was that Santa Clara is too far from the sea and they have to bribe the cops to bring seafood into the city. Everytime I go to Cuba, I carry lots of used clothing and what not for Cuban people, but when I get ripped off, I make sure my voice is heard. To comp! are this casa to La Casa de Ernesto y Mireya, I paid $8 for dinner and it was enough for 3 people!!!!!! I guess the owner of Pergola get too many visiters and are rated number 1 in tripadvisor so they think they can get away with ripping people off. Here is a link of the best casa in Santa Clara. My review: One of the best "casas particulares" that we had on our two week trip to Cuba. Everything was wonderful: super clean and nicely furnished rooms, very spacious bathrooms with well-functioning (!) shower, gorgeous patio with rocking chairs in front of the rooms, excellent food and, on top of that, totally charming and helpful hosts. Highly recommended.

My review: These people were so nice !!! There was a party at the moment we arrived and immediately we were invited to celebrate the birthday of the doughter. There was a family and friends reunion which we really enjoyed !
This casa offers perfect hospitality ! The rooms are very nicely decorated and renovated, as well as the precious garden. We really enjoyed Carmen's delicious cooking as well as the spontaneous way to serve of our host Obreg��a real kitchen team !
Although we only spent one day and night over here, it was an unforgettable experience ! To be repeated !

My review: We only stayed two nights, but we got a very good impression of this casa and its owners.
The casa is a lovely colonial house situated in the centre of Santa Clara. The room was absolutely beautiful. It had a high ceiling and a private clean and modern bathroom. Outside the room is the very pretty garden where it was possible to sit down for a cup of tea or coffee. It was also possible to relax on the rooftop when the sun wasn't too strong.
The owners of the casa are very friendly and extremely service minded. And a plus, they both speak english pretty well.

My review: We had a pleasure to stay at Hostal Autentica Pergola in July 2011. The house is very beautifull with unique colonial atmosphere and big and very well arranged garden.
The rooms are big with private and clean bath.The hosts Carmen and Carlos are very friendly and helpfull in all unexpected cases ( we had a serous car problem and Carlos helped us immediately). .The food was very delicious and the quantity was absolutely enough ( big langosta for a very, very reasonable price). Location is excellent , just 100 mtrs to the central city plaza.
Full recommendation for this place!

My review: The Hostal Autentica Pergola is a gem in the heart of Santa Clara, few ten of meters from Parque Vidal. Rooms are large, furnished with taste and equipped with all comforts (bathroom, air conditioned, refrigerator,...). The patio on which the rooms come forward is splendid: a small green oasis that, in each moment of the day, with a good book and in the comfort of large ironworked rocking chairs, invites to a complete relax, sometimes interrupted, but not unpleasantly, by the call of the colorful parrots. The hospitality (and the availability) of Carmen and Carlos is delicious, as the meals that, on request, they prepare for the guests: excellent elaborations of the local typical kitchen which have nothing to envy to the best restaurants signaled in the touristic guides. The Autentica Pergola is surely an excellent choice for an enjoyable stay in Santa Clara.

Really this casa has it all, Carmen y Obregon will help you with anything you need. Obregon helped us with our car as we needed to go to agency for check up..
Carmen is amazing cook, so i highly reccomend to eat in the house, dinner and breakfast.
There's minibar in the room.
They are reliable, will keep you your room if booked, just call to confirm it!

My review: Hostal Autentica Pergola Santa Clara
My wife and I, Toronto residents in our 60s, had a wonderful stay at La Autentica Pergola in early April. We visited Santa Clara for a couple of days, travelling down from our resort on Cayo Santa Maria. It was our first experience of staying in a casa particular and could not have been better. Our hosts, Carlos and Carmen Obregon were most obliging and helpful.
LOCATION: La Autentica Pergola is very centrally situated close to the centre of town, Parque Leoncio Videla, walking distance to all the cafes and most places of interest such as monument to the Tren Blindado, Teatro de La Caridad, etc. However, it is quiet at night, as the rooms (3) are off a central courtyard in the traditional colonial style. The cool and welcoming courtyard was decorated with a water fountain and plants of all types, along with exotic birds and a friendly parrot (all of whom are sent upstairs at night, so no noise after hours).
HIGHLIGHT OF VISIT: We took a childs bike down with us to Cuba. This had been re-furbished from a cast-off by a friend of ours, a serious cycling enthusiast who participates in a volunteer program which regularly donates bikes to Cuba. Through the help of our hosts Carlos and Carmen, we were able to make contact with a young family, and hand the bike over to their 8 year old daughter. A highlight of the trip, as you can imagine.

ROOM: Our room, and we presume all others, was very clean, had an ensuite bathroom with shower and washbasin (a second wash basin in the room), refrigerator with water, wine and beer supplied, TV. We found the mattress somewhat on the hard side, but not to worry after a night on the town. Each room had a couple of chairs and table outside for guests to relax, read etc in the cool patio area, a nice touch. MEALS: the dinner at La Autentica Pergola was unquestionably the best meal we had in Cuba, despite staying at a five star resort for the week. Delicious lobster, amazing soup, ice cream, fruits, and also a delightful breakfast the next morning with excellent coffee. All served at our own private table, we felt like privileged guests at a private hideaway. With wine and meals, including the room, the total bill came to around $ 70 CUC, amazing value.

My review: Excellent house. Carmen and Obreg��re very friendly people.The rooms are clean and comfortable,with a private bathroom.What's most attractive is the beautiful garden, it would be no problem to spend there all day,reading and relaxing,enjoying flowers and animals. The ownwers really understand how to meet with the wishes from their guests. Food is very good,table is set in a very stylish way, with candles and nice glasses for the wine. There is more than enough from everything,until the home-made cookies and cake!For sure,this is the place to be in Santa-Clara.

This was our best casa particular we visited on our round trip trough Cuba.

The casa is very close to the center of the city. It is a beautiful house with a wonderful garden and the people are very friendly. This was truly our favourite casa that we stayed in all of Cuba. It is true, that when Carmen asked you what you want for dinner that night, saying 'supriza mi' is really the way to go. This was one of the best experiences in my travels throughout Cuba. I cannot say enough for this wonderful couple Carmen y Carlos. They were so welcoming and hospitable and could not do enough to help you out. We had some other accomodation and transport issues leaving Santa Clara and they called around to other connections and went out of their way to help us.
I also travelled with my 4yr old and friend and they were so kind.
The food here is 2nd to none.. you do not need to go out to eat. The room is very clean and comfortable and the ambience of the place makes you feel relaxed. I would recommend to anyone who has real appreciation for good human kindness.
(you will know what i mean once you start travelling cuba).
They do show you a real, nice and pleasant side to a country that can be tough to travel through.

The best casa we stayed in. Carmen and Carlos were wonderful, the house is beautiful and the food is fantastic. Very close to Santa Clara's main square.
