A nice place located just in the centre of Baracoa. It offers
simple meals, without any pretension. |

This is a nice place with acceptable food. At nights, there
are live musical performances what gives ambience to the establishment. |

Canalcubano:
In this nice wooden house, it is the best of all "paladares"
-typical Cuban restaurant- in Baracoa and even the East of
Cuba. It is worth tasting the "tetí" -a tasteful
fish similar to elver, only found in this zone-. The rest
of the menu is excellent too. There is also a comfortable
terrace to eat.
Frommers:
The best of the private restaurants in Baracoa, this well-run
place in a lovely colonial home deserves to be supported by
travelers. There's no fixed menu; ask about fresh dishes and
catches from the daily roster of seven to eight main courses,
including fish and leche de coco accompaniments. Aside from
the tacky floral plastic tablecloths, the decor and ambience
here are romantic.

El Colonial
food is excelent but completely overpriced according to cuban standards. I just had frituras de malanga and my wife and mother in law they had fish covered with coco salsa. For each natural limonade they charged 1 CUC!!!.
Total price payed 23 CUC. roughly 28 USD. Tip not included.
Nothing fancy. try La Casona where we ate the next night.
Normally you pay 6 cuc for the food per person.

Frommers:
The restaurant within the Hotel El Castillo does big business
serving Baracoa specialties to its guests but it's a good
option for anyone in Baracoa. Try any of the locally flavored
dishes, such as creole soup, calalú, Santa Bárbara
fish filet, jaiba (sea crab), or cobo enchilado, a huge shellfish.
There are also some good options for vegetarians, including
stuffed eggplant and a vegetable plate. The daily set menu
is a little pricey at $12; you'll do better ordering a la
carte. When I last visited, the hotel was planning a major
expansion, and this restaurant may just be moved to a privileged
new perch with a commanding view. |

Canalcubano:
An attractive restaurant inside a charming natural environment,
surrounded by a thick tropical vegetation. Here, it is grown
cocoa, coffee and coconut. It is also possible, in this place,
to make an excursion by boat through the river. |

My review: at Calle 5 Norte near Maxime Gomez
This is a stupendous privately-run restaurant, popularly acknowledged by local people as the best in town and the restaurant also caters events.
Great decor, long tables. The heart of the restaurant is its grill and the skilled chef.
Fish is the specialty in addition to meat which is pork and chicken.
great fresh Cuban salads, desserts.
Can't say enough good things
AND
the walls are covered with cartoons and hand-written messages from delighted tourists from all over the world!

Cuban food
Canalcubano:
Located in the magnificent castle Castillo de La Punta, a
fortress that defended the city in time past, this restaurant
has a simple but tasteful cuisine. In the bar, there are sometimes
available some coconuts filled with a delicious liquor.
Frommers:
On a covered terrace within the walls of one of the original
three forts in Baracoa, this state-run restaurant is an elegant,
tranquil spot, perfect for lunch. It has good service and
well-prepared dishes like dorado and pargo (grilled fish),
and stuffed jaiba (sea crab). Typical Cuban dishes like beefsteak,
pork, and fried chicken are also available. Although the walls
of the fort block most of the views, especially from the tables,
if you walk around the grounds, you can peek through the canon
slots at the Atlantic Ocean, Baracoa bay, and some stunning
scenery. The bar, oddly enough, is open 24 hours. |
