El Zunzun is a beautifully modern apartment located in the heart of Havana Vedado, one of the most central and sought after neighbourhoods of Havana. The area is famous for its tranquility, restaurants (paladares) and majestic architecture. The casa particular El Zunzun takes its name from the smallest bird in Cuba, the Cuban Hummingbird, which is colourful, enchanting and hardworking, much like the small family of El Zunzun. To make communication easy, Spanish, English, and basic French and German are spoken by different members of the family, and they are always here to help you make the most of your stay in Havana. Built in 1955, Casa El Zunzun is on the first floor and features three bedrooms and two bathrooms, all recently renovated and painted. This spacious apartment is full of natural light, fresh air and has a large terrace with a pleasant, leafy view of the neighbourhood. The bedroom available for rent offers a traditional Cuban atmosphere with modern comforts. It is furnished with beautiful antique furniture, including a double and also a single bed, closet and dressing table. In addition, you have exclusive use of a bathroom with shower, bath and hot water available 24 hours a day. Fresh towels and linen are also provided. Special services: professors for Spanish and salsa classes, and itineraries and accommodation all over Cuba.

El Zunzun is a perfect starting point for exploring Havana, with a whole list of attractions only moments from your doorstep: - three blocks to the iconic Hotel Presidente, which offers facilities to exchange money, make international calls and internet services. - one block to the street Linea, from where you can take a Cuban collective taxi to Old Havana (Habana Vieja) and El Capitolio. It is only 10 minutes to the historical centre of the city. - five minutes walk to the celebrated Havana Malecon, place where couples and friends come together to enjoy the brilliant sunset. - fifteen minutes walk to the renowned ice-cream parlour, Coppelia, Cinema Yara, La Rampa and iconic hotels, Hotel Nacional and Havana Libre. - fifteen minutes walk to the majestic University of Havana.

Casa El Zunzun

My review: This was the first casa we (my girlfriend and I) stayed at on our trip to Cuba and they really made us feel welcome to the country. The owner is a really nice and helpful lady, who also cooks very good cuban meals. We ate the breakfast there every morning and it was delicious. Especially we enjoyed the fresh fruits and the juices! We also ate dinner there most nights and enjoyed that very much as well.
The location is in Vedado, which is a bit more quiet neighborhood compared to Centro Habana and Habana Vieja and even though it took a while to walk to the center of the city, we really appreciated the peace there. It's also really cheap to take a taxi collectivo to the city center and at the same time you get a real cuban experience.
When we arrived to the country we had only booked this accommodation and our plan was to visit many other cities as well. The owner helped us to arrange accommodations in all the other cities through her contacts, which was a big plus! There was always someone waiting for us at the bus station when we arrived to a new city.
We stayed at El Zunzun for one week and we were sad to leave, because we really felt like home there. The owner doesn't speak much English, but her son speaks it perfectly, so there is no problem with communication even though you wouldn't speak any Spanish.
We wish all the best for the whole family and hope to visit again some day!

Casa Zunzun

Loved Casa Zunzun! One of the best I stayed in in Cuba! This was my second trip to Cuba and I stayed in Casa Zunzun 1 night when I arrived and another 10 nights when I went back to Havana before leaving. The casa is fairly central, a nice walk to the Malecon or collective ride to Havana Vieja. The room is lovely and airy (loved the big louvred windows) and clean as is the bathroom with fresh towels every day. The balcony was lovely to sit on and eat the great meals cooked by casa mumma Ketty. But the best was the family themselves, always helpful and friendly and inclusive. Loved sitting around with daughter Mary and Abuela watching baseball. Mary and Oryel speak excellent English and were very helpful and kind and Ketty was also a kind, wonderful hostess and cooked me special food when I was sick. Will definitely stay there again when I return to Havana next year.

How was your room?: Large and airy (loved the big louvred windows) but with good aircon; clean and comfortable and the bed and pillows in particular were very comfortable (sometimes a problem in Cuba!); bathroom was separate and had a good shower and bath with clean towels daily.
How was the food they offer?: Ketty is an excellent cook and the food was very tasty and plentiful and well presented.
Other services they offer: Salsa and Spanish classes in the home can be organised (although I did not do this). They also have a great booklet of information they put together of all the sites, music venues and some restaurants in the area and Havana in general which was very helpful. Mary and Oryel were also great at remmending the best places to go to hear live music (my passion).

Casa ZunZun

My review: I stayed 10 days in this casa at february 2013 and I was second tim in Cuba that time. I can recommend this casa for everybody. The situation is good, the house is comfortable, clean and the mother of the family makes very good meals in reasonable price for guests. The family is also very friendly and really help tourists in many ways to have a great holiday. Greetings Ari from Finland

Casa El Zunzun

My review: We stayed for a week and had an amazing time! The home was lovely and we felt very welcomed by the family. The location was great, close enought to walk everywhere. The homecooked meals were a real treat, better than what we were served in the restaurants. We also got to practice our spanish, and had salsa classes most mornings in the home. We got a really different perspective of Havana than we would have if we had stayed in a hotel, and we couldnt recomment it highly enough.

How was your room?: Room was very comfortable with everything we needed. Plenty of space and furnished in a homely way. Bathroom was nextdoor.
How was the food they offer?: Homecooked meals. Breakfast was eggs and toast with juice and fruit. We also had lobster and chicken dishes for dinner which were all delicious. Generous servings.
Other services they offer: Arranged taxis and salsa classes and also acted as a local guide, taking us around Havana, from the university to best bars and giving insight into the local area.
Other comments: Would recommend this casa particular to our friends.

El Zunzun

My review: Hi everyone,
I just wanna send out a big thank you to the Zunzun's family, especially to Ketty my host mother for cooking such delicious Cuban meals and Oryel for showing me the real hot spots of Havana and helping me to organize some of my Cuban adventures.
This was my second trip to Cuba and I have to say that this "casa particular" in Vedado was one of the best places I've ever stayed in Cuba. It was extremely clean, comfortable and more importantly genuine.
So for all this, next time I am in Havana I'll definitely stay at "El Zunzun".
