Casa Delvis | Havana Vedado |

My review: I was referred to Casa Delvis by a casa owner in Cienfuegos. When I arrived at the Viazul bus station in Havana a family member was there to meet me and take me to the casa. I was very appreciative of this service and was warmly welcomed by Delvis when I arrived at her home.

Casa Delvis is the penthouse apartment of a 7 floor building in Vedado. In terms of location, it is within easy walking distance from the Malecon; and is only a few blocks away from the Hotel Havana Libre, banking, theatres, and cultural centres.

I think Casa Delvis is a great option for families or for a small group of people. There are two bedrooms to rent, both of which can connect to a sitting room with a fridge and TV. As well, there are two different patio areas with comfortable chairs that can be accessed, both with nice views.

How was your room?: My room was the larger of the two and was very spacious, with both a closet and a dresser. It was very well ventilated as well has having an air conditioner. The bathroom attached to this room is a very good size...probably bigger than my bathroom at home.

How was the food they offer?: While I was in Havana had most of my meals at Casa Delvis, including breakfasts, dinners, and lunch on the day that I arrived. The food was delicious, varied, and plentiful. Delvis alway made sure that I had a good breakfast so as to fuel up for the day's activities which inevitably involved a lot of walking.

Other services they offer: As mentioned, a pick up and drop off service from the Viazul bus station is offered, and while I personally didn't have to go to the airport in Havana, I am informed that they also provide transportation to and from there as well. Plus, other excursions can be arranged.

Other comments: Delvis, and her entire family, are very warm and welcoming people. They all tried to assist me with the various activities that I was planning. When I told her that I wanted to take in a theatrical production of Romeo and Juliet - at a cultural centre a few blocks away, she decided to accompany me so that I wouldn't have to go by myself. On the way home, we stopped by her neighbours so that she could introduce them to me.

Thank you so very much Delvis. I had a very comfortable and memorable stay.

Casa Maria
Address: Calle 21, N y O, No. 4, Apto. 73, Vedado, Havana
Tel: +53 78326293

My review: We had a lovely stay with Maria. The apartment is in an older building directly across from the Hotel Nacional in Vedado, so the location is great. Maria kept the place very clean and we appreciated our own ensuite bathroom and fridge; the decor was old-fashioned and quaint. We ordered breakfast twice and dinner once. The dinner was particularly special: langoustine and shrimp in a red sauce, plantains, black beans, rice and salad. There are about 13 other casas in this apartment building, so the doorman could point us to one with a vacancy easily. We'd definitely go back again.

Casa Libertad
Address: Calle 19 #.806 (bajos) e/2 y 4, Havana Vedado, Cuba
Tel: +53 7 8335481

My review: This is a large and lovely home with a sweeping veranda and beautifully landscaped yard. We had a very large bedroom with two beds, a spacious dresser, air conditioner and a private bath. The door is locked and she provides you with a key. It is very secure. There is maid service. We were provided clean linens and laundry facilities. Breakfast is provided for a small fee. Libertad and her son provide a great experience.

Although I cannot guarantee you will have the pleasure of the unusual treat we experienced almost every afternoon. Her son, Elias, is a professional musician and music teacher. One day, a jazz combo that plays at Plaza de la Catedral, was there practicing. It was late afternoon, and it was raining. We sat on Libertad's veranda and were serenaded by some fantastic music. All it cost was a few pieces of hard candy. On other days, during the afternoon shower, Elias played piano. It was unexpected and it was fabulous.

Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Garden, Breakfast service, Bathroom with tub, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Very comfortable. The bed was really nice. We slept well and naps were wonderful.
How was the food they offer?: Only breakfast. I am not a breakfast fan but my husband loved it. It consisted of fresh fruit, pan with butter and honey, coffee, fresh squeezed juice, eggs with fresh tomatoes. It was quite substantial.
Other services they offer: Needing to get around and to see the city, we asked Libertad. She referred us to Carlos Gonzalez Dominguez. He is a cab driver whom we hired on a daily basis. He was the delight of our trip. He took us everywhere. We toured, shopped, dined, everything. He even took us to the airport when we left. He was trustworthy, reliable, and always on time. His number is (in Havana) on his cell phone 052428725.
Other comments: Libertad is not an innkeeper. She shares her home with you and that is the feeling you get. Because of the afternoon concerts, the stay was unique. It is located in a really nice part of town. It is just one block off the Paseo, close to the Plaza de la Revolucion and a few blocks from the Hotel Melia Cohiba (the hotel has a business center where you can rent a computer by the hour for emails, etc.) and the Hotel Riviera. It is one block from the Casa de La Amistad.

Libertad is a marvelous lady who will make you feel welcome. We cannot wait to go back!!

My review: This home I will call it home-away from home! SUPER clean their was not one ounce of trash, not one thing out of place it was very well taken care of & the grounds are well manicured. The home itself as well as they surrounding area homes are very quiet. They have 3 bedrooms in total, however the one in the back was just what the doctor ordered. Great bathroom! Your own fans & A.C. a full refrigertor with your private entry, the room is very spacious and it's perfect for a couple. The rest of the rooms are great as well but those are in the home (not as private).
The food was very tasty, every morning we had a ton of fresh fruit with yogurt, breads & whatever fresh juice we preferred. One night they roasted a pig and we were invited to be part of the celebration, the trimmings such as the beans, rice, yucca were awesome. Best meal we had in Cuba! They treat you as if you were truly part of the family. They had really nice linens, towels, blow dryers, iron w/board, anything you can imagine this family had it!
This use to be the home to a very prominant doctor in Cuba so the actual house has catherdral ceilings, beautiful modlings with exotic decor & even a small library for those interested. It's only a 15 - 20 min cab ride from the action in Habana. This B&B located in Vedado is a gourgeous place. It's a must see!
Clean! Safe! Spacious! 5 star service! What is their not to love!!! I highly recommend this mother & daughter B&B! These women are very knowledgable about everything in Cuba, they served as great guides, not to mention their well connected to the BEST drivers in Cuba! Honest & realiable that will not take advantage of a tourist! I will rtn this fall for sure!!!
Their is a GREAT inner feeling about connecting and helping families ....for 5 star hotels we can do that away from Cuba. Help support "family owned & operated businesses. They put grand hotels to shame!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Garden, Patio
Amenities: TV, Safety box, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Garden, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with tub, Bathroom with shower, Private parking
How was your room?: Super private!!! Private entry with all the amenities one can possibly need. Blow Dryer, Ironing board. Nice tub, Refridgerator with freezer (nice ice storage space)
Perfect set of drawers, spacious closet, nice t.v. ceiling fan. a.c. box (cooled pretty good) chair to relax, door opens to patio. The room is a PRETTY GOOD size! Bathroom has been newly remodled.
How was the food they offer?: The food was fantastic! I think the best we had in Cuba! Fresh & very flavorful with all the trimmings. Fantastic pastries not to mention ice cream. Very tasty. In a nutshell they make great use of their spices & marinades, very talneted in the kitchen.
Other services they offer: Transpo services, guides, laundry service (if you request it)
Other comments: I have traveled to Italy, Spain, France and I must say the Cuban people are amongst the warmest most serviceable people I have EVER encountered. You don't only expereince Cuba but you also come away with great friends. Now I finally understand why so many visit Cuba over & over & cannot get enough of their hospitality.

Casa Ever 7 Mary
Address: ave malecon #115 piso #2 apt #3 e/genios y crespo, havana, Cuba

My review: This place is right on the malecon, our main reason for choosing it (with the help of pototo). After struggling yours bags up the stairs you are rewarded with the malecon view, fantastic! i won the coin toss and got the front room with the window over the malecon and the spiril staircase going up to the bathroom. my partners room was without window but still comfy and modern. overall this is a very recently renovated modern apartment building by havana standards. Breakfast on the terrace gave -watching people- (and cars) a whole new meaning. i got to watch some of the cuban baseball playoff games at night in the living room in a proper baseball game watching chair on the great big screen. felt like family only you can hear the waves on the rocks at night.

Casa specifics: Comfortable, Safe, Children in the house
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: the rooms were freshly painted and modern with private bathrooms with hot showers.
the front room is the best but make sure you can climbing a steep metal staircase.
How was the food they offer?: we had breakfast everyday on the small terrace for additional 4 dollars.
