Hostal El Caribe Trinidad Cuba

Photos Hostal El Caribe

The casa particular from Ada and her grandson Maikel, Hostal El Caribe, is located a few blocks from the historic center of Trinidad on the corner of a street where you can see the real Cuban live going by from your private balcony. You can rent the upper floor per room, but also a great place for a family.
The casa offers two bedrooms with a bathroom shared by the two rooms, a balcony at the front and a larger terrace in the back where you will have your breakfast and dinner.
Ada, the owner is a fantastic very helpful woman with a lot of humor. You won't regret staying in this casa particular.

My review about the casa: We got this casa recommendation from Marga, Ada's best friend because Marga didn't have availability. We were beyond satisfied with our stay here! We had our own floor of the house which is perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids (we were only 2 adults so had an extra small bedroom). The space was clean and large and we were very happy with it as soon as we saw it. We had our own bathroom with good hot water. We had a large balcony to sit out on and also where we enjoyed our daily breakfasts (coffee, juice, fruits, eggs, bread, and more). Ada and her family were so welcoming that we felt like we were with our own family. Her and her husband invited us to go watch live music where her husband works. It was way better than the tourist trap just a couple blocks away. Ada is so warm and loving and full of energy. Location was great being near the center of the town and walking distance to pretty much everything we were interested in. We loved hearing the live salsa music and seeing the locals having fun and dancing. We also thoroughly enjoyed our casual conversations with our hosts.

How was your room?: The space was excellent. There was a fridge stocked with water, soda and beer for purchase. This was extremely helpful since we were drinking constantly due to the heat. We had complete privacy upstairs. There was an AC only in the main room and also fans in both rooms.

How was the food they offer?: The food was fantastic. We had dinner there the first night, a seafood plate and a chicken plate, complete with rice, avocado, and beers. We had breakfast every day we stayed there and it was filling and delicious. The prices for both were reasonable. Ada's niece made and served the food on our patio and it felt as if we were in a restaurant due to the attentiveness and service. Other services they offer: They helped to arrange a colectivo (shared taxi). Recommendations for live music and dancing.

Other comments: We will be back and recommend this space for everyone!! We are already missing Ada and Trinidad. Languages spoken: Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Charming Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Patio, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower

My review: We were welcomed to this casa with the warm smiles of Ada and Nicholas and delicious juice. Our second floor two bedroom apartment was complimented by classic front and rear terraces for sun or shade and a great view of the lively streets of Trinidad. Delightful bathroom, a fridge kept full of water, soda, beer and wine, and air conditioning and fans.
Every morning we were greeted with a nourishing breakfast served on the back terrace in a wonderful environment. We chose to enjoy some evening meals there, as well. Delicious!
The best part of our stay was the host family. The language barrier seemed no problem at all. They were so welcoming, gracious and generous with their time and contacts. They knew when we wanted to visit with them or leave us to our privacy. We ended up changing our plans to travel further on, so we could stay in this wonderful place! One evening, they invited us to accompany them out for live music and libations on Nicholas's birthday. It was such a fantastic night. They made us feel like a part of their family, and we can't wait to go back!

How was your room?: Lovely. Very comfortable, clean and cool.

How was the food they offer?: Delicious and varied dishes.

This was the best casa we have stayed in. Mainly because of the people. Ada, Olly, Michael and co. were BY FAR the kindest, sweetest, fun, realest - just BEST - people we have met in the whole of CUBA. It were the best three days of your vacation. It's so refreshing that people are just sincerely NICE, without a hidden agenda (a.k.a. CUCs). We had a great night with them at the Casa la Musica, danced the night away with Ada (63!) till 03.00 A.M. It ended at the front door of their casa, drinking rum and talking about anything (although we don't speak Spanish and they speak only little English, communication was no problem at all!). For me: it was a rarity, to meet people this nice in a country that - in my humble opinion - needs to rethink the way they should treat people. Ada and Olly now exactly how to treat you, and make you feel at home. A lot of owners of other casa's we have stayed in can a learn a lot of these wonderful people. It made us realize: it's not the wonderful beaches, it's not the wonderfull landscapes, it's not even the food (definitely not in Cuba) that makes of breakes your Holiday: in the end it's the people. And Ada and Olly definitely made our Holiday! 5 STARS ALL THE WA

How did you make the reservation for this casa particular?: Trough email - recomendation

How much did you pay per night?: 30 CUC

Our stay at hostal el caribe was great. Ada, Maykel and family were wonderful hosts, very friendly and warm people. We were traveling with our 4,5 year old girl and they made those four days in Trinidad very special. The position of the hostal is great, 2 min walk to the park and close to the old center, but still a little bit away from the crowds. So we could enjoy a quiet evening on the balcony and watch the real Cuban daily routine in the morning. Ada and Maykel were very helpful, organizing taxi to the beach or bici taxi to the main square. We would definitely recommend this casa!

How was your room?: The room is great; actually we had the whole upper floor. There are two rooms and one bathroom. Rooms are very comfortable with air condition and a fan, so even though we were there in May the night temperatures were very comfortable.

How was the food they offer?: The food was excellent; we had breakfast every morning, which was served by Maykel at our balcony. We got a different breakfast each morning. We also ate great fish dinner.

Other comments: Ada and Maykel thank you again for your help and kindness. We are glad we stayed at your casa, which made our stay in Trinidad even better.

My review about the casa: We had an excellent stay - Ada and family were wonderfully hospitable and friendly, and the apartment was comfortable, clean and gave us plenty of space. Air conditioning and ventilation ensured a comfortable temperature and good nights' sleep. The balcony gave us an engrossing view of the spectacle of the daily life of largely non-tourist Trinidad: the horse-drawn carts, the bike bread and fruit sellers, the 1950s cars. It is well-situated for exploring the town and accessing the railway 'station'. Thoroughly recommended.

How was your room?: Comfortable, ample space, especially as there were only two of us which gave us a 'spare' room.

How was the food they offer?: Excellent: breakfasts saw us through the whole day and offered an interesting variety; dinners were similarly generous and well-prepared. All as served with charm by Maykel who was most helpful throughout. The food was really good value: after eating 'out' on the evening of arrival, we chose to have all meals at the Hostal and certainly had no regrets.

Other services they offer: Laundry, which was done immaculately by Nicola and a real help as we were spending three weeks in all travelling.
Maykel arranged and booked a taxi to take us to the beach one day; also, bike taxi pick up and return to the bus station.

Other comments: We were attracted to the Hostal by the article in The Guardian:

We weren't disappointed!

I made a reservation at the casa directly
I paid 35 CUC per night (the other casa owner who referred us said it would be 30 CUC)

My review: We stayed here for four nights in Feb-Mar 2017. We loved our stay at El Caribe--lots of space, very clean, friendly hosts, and a short walk to the historic center of town. The two of us had a room with a queen sized bed, as well as access to a second room with a bed and a stocked refrigerator. We had a private bath as well. In addition, we had our own outside balcony around two sides of the building. We ate breakfast and dinner on a lower level balcony. Our bedroom had air conditioning, which felt great at night and blocked out the minor street noise. The second bedroom did not have AC. The breakfasts were huge with fruit, eggs, bread, coffee and juice. We ate dinner at the casa one night, and it was delicious (10 CUC per person). The host, Ada Silva, and her nephew were welcoming and friendly and helped us make a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant.
