My review: First class casa - spectacular ocean view – great meals – very friendly hosts
Located right by the beach, this casa is worth spending several days (we stayed 4 days). The beautyful garden has nice places to sit and enjoy a drink, or just relax in the hammok, or take a swim in the pool. They serve delicious meals (try fish!). Another beautyful tropical beach ist just one kilometer away. This casa is just a little paradise – we’ll sure come back.

Casa Calixto Garcia, Guantanamo, Cuba

My review: I was pleasantly surprised by the casa upon arrival for my week's stay. I stayed on the second floor in what was like a 2 bedroom apartment. My room had it's own bathroom, comfy queen size bed with fluffy pillows. The water pressure in the bathroom was a little low but wasn't that big a problem, this is common in Cuba. There was a kitchen with full size fridge and burner for use to cook. A common area living room area to relax and watch TV or read a book. The terrace area had tanning loungers and space enough for tables and chairs to sit and have your morning breakfast (available at an additional cost). The hosts don't speak English however I stayed with my fiancé who speaks Spanish and I speak enough to communicate the basics...thank you Rosetta lol. There also was a nice size pool but unfortunately during my stay it wasn't filled, this is important in Guantanamo as beach area is a little bit of a distance, by car we drove 45 minutes outside the city. The ladies picked fresh grapes from the vines growing on the roof and offered them with coffee in the mornings. The hosts own two small chiwawa's that bark at the ring of the outer doorbell but once spoken to by their owners they behave. The Casa is has a secure entrance, you must ring the bell, someone is always available to let you in.

Casa Mayelin, Guantanamo, Cuba Sept 11 2012
Name: Vicki Jenssen
Country: Canada
I stayed here at: 08/08/2012

Casa "Mayelin"

Address: 109A Narciso Lopez (between S.Sanchez y Antonio saco), Guantanamo, Cuba
Tel: +53 5 2271599 / +53 5 3211543)

My review: The casa is very new, very spiffy, very clean, nicely designed with lots of new tile and new furniture. Mayelin is the smiling young landlady and keeps an eye out ...she IS the security! The air-conditioning is very effective, and there are fans if that's all you need. It as getting hot in May.
Her housekeeper is a gem: Yamiley always has a smile,, she'll serve you light breakfast, euro-coffee from a Boka espresso. She does the laundry, the sheets. Don't forget to leave her a tip.
this is a Spanish-speaking casa, our daughter who was living in Guantanamo as an intern (CIDA) helped us out.
There is a second bedroom, also with private WC, sink and shower, which should be available sometime soon. (there is a lot of bureaucracy attached to running you house as a case particular) If you had kids, I am sure this would be a good stop: the lounge area is tidy and spare. Cubans love kids...there is no patio but there is a narrow porch with armchairs facing the street.
You can arrange that they fix dinner for you

How was your room?: The room was clean, the bed we had was a Queen and comfortable. Plenty of closet space ... it seems to be the Master Bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower/hotwater. The air-conditioning was great. Lots of privacy...the high windows face the street

Casa Mayelin, Guantanamo, Cuba

How was the food they offer?: Lots of very fresh fruit and strong coffee for breakfast.
One day Yamiley brought us a flan she had made.
We never did ask for a dinner, my daughter cooked or we went out to eat.
Other services they offer: I'm sure they could arrange anything you want. They only speak Spanish
Other comments: Within walking distance of Parque Centrale, handy to all the attractions.
