Casa Yara
My review: Yara was a fantastic host - very friendly, welcoming, and professional. The rooms were comfortable, quiet, and very clean. We stayed with her based on glowing recommendations from friends who had stayed in the past, and weren't disappointed!
The location is not right in central Havana, but it was perfect for us. It's near a main road (23) that has constant colectivos going into the city and out to the western suburbs. A colectivo ride is only 10 local pesos or 50 cents CUC. We never waited more than 5 minutes to find one, even with 3 of us going together. It's two blocks from the big cemetery, which makes for an interesting morning to explore. We liked the neighborhood because there are not many tourists, so it was very laidback, but there were still enough places around to get a good meal or a beer, and you could be at Parque Central within 10 minutes.
We paid 25 CUC per room per night with no extra charge for breakfast.
Highly recommended!
How was your room?: Comfortable, quiet, and clean with a spacious private bathroom. The a/c worked well and so did the shower. Yara also provided a mini-fridge in our room with waters, sodas, and beers available for purchase, and space to keep our own drinks or leftovers.
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast was excellent. Yara made eggs to order and provided coffee, fresh fruit, and juice as well.
Other services they offer: She provided laundry service and helped us make phone calls for information and reservations.

Casa Yara
My review: We stayed at Casa Yara in december and had an amazing time. The hosts are extremely generous and gracious and were very helpful in organizing our stay (they even offer salsa classes). The hostel is located in a nice and calm neighbourhood of Vedado just a few blocks from the Malecon. Transportation to central havana is fast and easy, just take a taxi downtown, or even better: walk down to the Malecon and hop on a coco for a great scenic ride! We highly recommend you stay at Casa Yara! Enjoy your stay!
