Casa Yucilo y Nirma

The Casa Yucilo y Nirma is a wonderful place to stay. The couple Yucilo & his wife Nirma are very kind & accomodating. The room was hygienically clean & very comfortable. Breakfast included a fresh squeezed tropical juice (which was delicious & healthy) bread & omellete, coffee and more....Dinner was a huge spread. The table literally could not have been more full. They cooked all sorts of nice things for us to try such as fresh bananna chips & fritas (home made potatoe chips! which were gobbled up very fast), rice, potatoes, soup, meat, seafood or vegetarian. Just let them know what you prefere. We also had some pasta dinners as we needed the pasta power for rock climbing. It was very good. Nirma put extra garlic & onions in as per our request. Our stuff was always safe there & we were so comfortable. My clothes were getting pretty dirty from rock climbing & booting around the bush. With ample notice, they can wash your clothes for you, likely if there are not too many. In Vinales people are responsible about the amount of water they use. Looking around the town, I think this is likely one of the best casa particulairs in Vinales. I would not recommend staying in hotels. Very bad food & you dont know what your getting. Service sucks at those big hotels as well. He is excellent at English. Nirma speaks pretty good English but if you can speak Spanish that is better. Have a great trip!

We stayed there for 3 nights and we feel like our home! Lucilo and Nirma are lovely person, they help you in each things you need. The house is really nice. I suggest this house to everyone!

Lovely Cuban family in lush Vinales!

We stayed with Lucilo and Nirma for 2 nights a few weeks ago and had a really lovely time. We drove to Vinales from Havana (not for the faint hearted as there are not many signs) We couldn't find the place so a neighbour kindly telephoned and Lucilio rode his bike (in the heat) to come and collect us and take us to their home. It's a lovely house, one story with a small but new and very clean house out the back which is where we stayed. The food in Cuba is terrible as a whole (limited choices, bland) with Nirma's cooking being the exception to this. We had the best food here than anywhere in Cuba including the restaurants in Havana so it's worth staying here just to get a decent meal!

Our hosts were very helpful and willing - very easy going and lovely people. My spanish is very basic but we managed to get by and we did the horse trip that they recommended which was one of the highlights of our trip to Cuba.

Casa Lucilo y Nirma

The moment we hopped off the coach from Havana in Vinales, we were met by the beaming smile of our hosts’ son Junior. Casa Lucilo y Nirma is a short walk from the terminal back from the main street, and here we were introduced to all the family, including the dog. They are very warm and genuine people, and invite you to share in their lovely, clean and relaxing home. They strike the right balance between offering a sociable environment and giving visitors space to find their own pace.

The home-cooked meals were beautiful. Lovely fresh ingredients deliciously prepared. Although many other reviewers have written about the vegetarian cooking here, we opted for some meat dishes too. The cooked ham was incredible and melted in the mouth. The beautifully cooked fish with sweet potato chip accompaniment was a treat. Nirma also served chickpea soup, with a wink, and it was to die for. Every morning breakfast started with locally grown fresh fruit salad: papaya, pineapple, watermelon, mango... I can’t imagine eating as well as this again for a very long time!

We slept in the newly constructed room in the back garden, overlooking the beautiful Flor de Campana flowers. It was very clean and comfortable with ensuite bathroom, air-con and a double bed each.

My friend and I spent 3 nights in Lucilo and Nirma’s casa as we were touring other destinations in Cuba besides Vinales. There is much beautiful terrain to explore here, either by foot, horse or bicycle (all three to be recommended!) People in the town are very friendly. You can fall in the love with a place like this

Staying at Casa Lucilo y Nirma was , definitely, the highlight of our vacation in Cuba!

We did a lot of travelling(We spent 2 months in Cuba and visited most of the touristic and non touristic atractions) and it has been, so far, our favourite place to stay.

First of all-the family!
What can we say! After leaving cold London, finding this family in one of the most beautiful places on earth was like a breath of fresh air.The family atmosphere,the kindness,the happy faces...were always there joining a glasss of fresh juice everytime we came from of day trips in Vinales.
We still do miss the quiet evenings at their terrace smoking the nice Cuban cigars and having Lucilo telling us stories about life in Cuba.

We felt like at home, they definitely made our staying.

Having dinner with them was every day a new experince.Nirma and Nana,the cooks, should have a top place in the best cuisine guidebooks!
The food was just delicious.Evryday they served a big typical Cuban meal and we could only eat half of it.So much food!
We tried here our first lobster in Cuba ,which was fantastic.We also had pork, fish fillet(was also delicoius) and it all comes with the rice and the black beans, the chips, the fresh vegetables sald and the fruts from the regio.You can ask Nirma for wine or beer, both from Vinales During the 6 nights we spent in Vinales we gained a few kilos, as soon as we got home we started excercising!
We highly recommend to everyone travelling to Vinales, tp ry one meal here, you do not have to stay with them, just give them a phone call and they will kindly prepare a fantastic food Lucilo prepares strong Mojitos that will make you sleep deeply(we can tell!)

They rent two rooms(one of them is quite new and that is why it isnot listed yet in their web site).The rooms are clean, independent and confortable regarding the Cuban standards.Each room has two big beds, air conditioning and lots or running hot water 24 hours.Both rooms have own bathrooms Both rooms have a common entrance to a beautiful garden in the back of their terrace.You can always irrigate their garden(they would be very happy :-)) The terrace is plenty of space and in the afternoons is not strange to watch a little hummingbird visiting the garden

In case you do not speak Spanish they speak English.We had some difficult times when visiting other areas of Cuba as any of our hostes spoke any English

Lucilo cann arrange everything for you, walking tours, horseback riding trips, bikes rental, accommodation in other parts of Cuba, beach trips, salsa and Spanicxh lessons....yo just have to ask him in advance They can also pick you up at the bus station if you are ablle to arrange this by email

We are very much looking forward to visit them again, it was home from home in Cuba
