Oct 29 2013 Casa de Ridel y ClaribelMy review: I only have great words for Ridel and Claribel! We came to Vinales from Havana and arranged the accommodation two days prior to arrival. Ridel was really flexible with our schedule and so helpful - they didn't have both rooms available so he found the other one for our friends to stay at (at his neighbour's casa). Evening before coming there, I called to confirm our arrival and asked Ridel if it's possible to take a horseback riding tour the next day. We came there at 10:30, an hour later there was a car waiting for us to take us to the tour. The next day he arranged a wonderful trip to Cueva de Santo Tomas and Cayo Julia where we were ridden in a 50's cabrio! If there wasn't for Ridel, I don't think we would be able to organize all those by ourselves. Also, he arranged a 1955 chevrolet to take us to Havana the next day. Our room was great, everything was clean (they even cleaned the room after our first night!!), there was a minibar and a spacious bathroom. The room could event fit more than 2 people since there's two double beds. The only place where we ate was the casa and the food was amazing, we had lobster and fish and they were both delicious! The whole family was very welcoming and not for a moment I felt like staying in unknown people's place. They wanted us to feel good at their place and they definitely succeeded. There's so many nice words I could say for this family, I highly recommend staying here, so you could feel a great Cuban hospitality! Hopefully, we will come back to Cuba one day and this is the house where I want to stay then. The house of Ridel and Claribel is very nice, with a fantastic panorama view from the roof garden or the terrace to the famous Valle de Viñales. But the best was the attention we received from them, they made us feel at home, and they arranged some tours (they are very well connected with the local people) and gave us great tips for our next destinations. Casa Ridel y ClaribelMy review: During our three-week trip to Cuba (November / December 2012), we spent four nights at Claribel, Ridel and her family. Upon our arrival we were greeted by warm Ridel. He showed us to our room on the 1st floor. The room is reached via an external staircase and it has its own entrance. The room was equipped with a double bed and another single bed. The small bathroom has a shower and toilet. The room was perfectly adequate and the most important thing - it was all very clean. Ridel speaks very good English. But he also had the patience to chat with us on our fragile little Spanish. The Casa is located just before leaving. But the fact that the place is very small Vinales everything can be achieved very quickly on foot. Via another external staircase leads to the roof terrace and offers a unique panoramic view over the village of Vinales. As we have read in all the guide books and reports that you get the best Cuban food served in the private Casas gets, we agreed with Ridel that we are taking the next breakfast and dinner with them. The first breakfast was served to us in the morning on the roof terrace of Claribel (Ridels wife). The breakfast left nothing to be desired. There was fresh coffee, milk, bread, fresh mango juice, if desired omelet or scrambled eggs, homemade jams, honey and 3 different kinds of fruit. Very tasty :-) Also the dinner was always delicious. Morning after breakfast we were always asking if we have the evening to something specific appetite. We usually had no special wishes and wanted us prefer to be surprised. This we have never regretted. It was not even something on the table, what we did not like. And the table was always filled with lush. For example, with: black bean soup (very tasty - I had not expected at first sight), sweet potatoes, meatballs, grilled tuna, chicken, shrimp, salads, lots of fresh fruit. After dinner we usually still drinking a mojito and chatted a bit with Ridel. Ridel is a gynecologist and his wife Claribel is working as a dentist. The couple have two daughters, Laura and Clarisse. One evening we played several rounds with Domino Ridel, Claribel and her daughter Laura. Although Claribel and Laura spoke only Spanish and we were able to talk only with the hands, feet, and our little translator was one of the best evenings in Cuba. Who wants to meet on his trip to Cuba, the "real Cuba" should definitely planning several nights in a Casa Particular. The Casa of Ridel and Claribel we can highly recommend. Ridel organize tours in the area and gives helpful advice for recreation. Among other things, we are having a "cowboy" riding through the valley of Vinales and drive to Cayo Jutias went for a swim. At the Casa, we were lovingly cared for and yet we were given enough privacy. Food, hospitality and great accommodation. It was a short stay with friends :-) Many thanks to Ridel and his family. Casa Ridel y ClaribelMy review: Amazing Food. Beautiful House and the Best Host we can ask for!! We really enjoyed our times here. Coming into Vinales, we didn't speak much spanish. Ridel helped us arranged everything during our entire stay. a horse riding trip to the valley (amazing), a trip to the beach in a 1950s Chevy (loved it) and even helped us reserved our return bus tickets ahead of time before it's fully booked. Claribel & her mom (Maria) also prepared sandwiches for us to bring to the beach. loved every minute of our stay here in Vinales. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality Ridel! Be sure to ask to taste the Pork steak for dinner! It's so tender & juicy, seriously the best food I've had in Cuba. Ridel is a doctor, his wife Claribel is a dentist. both are very well educated. Ridel speaks great english, so communication isn't much of a problem. When you come, if possible, bring some some items like soap, shampoo, bodywash, toothpaste for them. it's very expensive to acquire these things in Cuba. And they'll appreciate these things very much! Their young daughter Laura, is very warm, outgoing and smart. be sure to teach her few words in your own language, she's a quick learner! Will come back in the future, we'll definitely miss this place!
